About the project
Liner notes taken from the Aero press kit:
Without air, sound could not exist. Forever married to each other, sound and air cooperate in a complementary way, whether the sound of wind against a microphone or radio signals moving through air from source to receiver.
It is this complex relationship that Aero seeks to explore.
The atmosphere carries and creates sounds, becoming both pathway and home for audio events. Sound uses air as its means of moving from point to point, yet these pathways are often interrupted: a bird cries out high above on a windless day, static bursts in a radio transmission, a lightning crash jolts during a claming rain, war planes suddenly blast into a peaceful sky.
Composed almost entirely of manipulated field recordings and shortwave radio transmissions, Aero creates a listening space devoted to sounds, objects and incidents related specifically to air and atmosphere. Within the suite of songs, natural events like rain storms coexist with atmospheric events created by human beings. These meetings and interferences can either be harmonious or dissonant, as the pieces attempt to illustrate.
